LAMPASAS TEXAS HISTORY
LAMPASAS, DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
Long ago, Native Americans discovered the healing springs of Lampasas, and many tribes used it as a favorite campsite. Then in the late 1800's Lampasas became known as the Saratoga of the South. It was the resort destination for thousands seeking a place for relaxation, recreation, and good health in the healing waters of the mineral springs of Sulphur Creek. Today visitors and locals alike have the opportunity to enjoy the cool clear waters of the springs or engage in a round of golf on the beautiful community course that winds its way around the creek and the historic bathhouse site.
From its infamous past as the location of the bloody end to the Horrell-Higgins feud in 1877, the courthouse square is seeing a revitalization with restaurants and boutiques springing up around the town square offering a quaint ambience to this growing and historic town. Numerous community activities and festivals are a testament to the lifestyle awaiting residents of this fun loving community.
In 2006, Lampasas, the county seat, was listed as the fastest growing county in Texas and the sixth fastest growing county in the US. It continues this pattern of growth today.
Amenities abound in this gateway to the Texas Hill Country including its location at the northeast corner of the Texas wine trail and its abundant wildlife and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the surrounding lakes, rivers, creeks and rolling hills with panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country.
